Why Psychiatry is Generally Considered Socially Evil

In today’s world, mental illness is on the high. With more and more individuals getting into various mental disorders. But one aspect of medicine is known to help with this illness; the Psychiatry department handles situations like this when presented with a case. Psychiatry is a branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis of behavioral disorders with its treatment and prevention of these stipulated disorders.

So what do we call someone in that field of study? A Psychiatrist, someone is a medical doctor and specializes in mental health, substance use disorders. He or She is someone that has pass through several schools of study and his qualified to assess both the mental and physical aspects of psychological problems.

The individuals who usually seek help from the psychiatrist varies for different reasons. Problems could range from depression, substance abuse, panic attack, hallucinations, suicidal thoughts, or voices in one’s head. Or it could be a more long term situation as seen in hopelessness, anxiousness, sadness that causes harm to everyday life.

They are usually specialists in their field and provide their expertise on matters related to mental health; they shouldn’t be mistaken for psychologists. As one, you should be able to help individuals who come to you and seek for help throughout their recovery so they can be better individuals.

How Do Psychiatrist Help Out Patients

There are various reasons why an individual would seek the help of a psychiatrist; they could be sad, angry, feeling out of control, etc. or dealing with substance abuse or experiencing any form of psychological or emotional pain that could be suicidal at the highest level. Psychiatry allows you to examine each patient as a whole, considering not only their mental wellbeing but their physical and social status quo.

Treatments provided by a psychiatrist include the following:

1. They should be able to provide a wide range of treatments ranging from general medical health care, physical health, and the effects of medication used.

2. They should be able to provide various psychological treatments (psychotherapy and talking therapy)

3. Provide medications that help improve the overall wellbeing of the patient.

Why People Consider Psychiatry As Being An Evil Field Of Medicine

The height of evil considered by humans is usually the killing of a fellow human. Torture, in some instances, maybe far worse than killing (as the individual being tortured is scarred for life). By either definition, we can say without doubt Psychiatry is Evil. Why is that you may wonder?. The following reasons stated below gives an insight into why psychiatry is considered evil.

1. Deaths Caused by Psychiatry’s “Medications”

Most death caused by the cruel hands of Psychiatry has come from the so-called psychiatric medications. These medications most lethal types include the Antipsychotic, Anti-schizophrenic, neuroleptic, major tranquilizer drugs. These listed drugs are different names of drugs for the same group of drugs. We do have other types of drugs that could cause devastating harm to patients.

According to studies, Psychiatric drugs are mostly responsible for the death of more than a million people aged 65 and older in the western world. Assuming they had the same colossal benefit as their harmful effects, then the drugs would have been justifiable. But they don’t provide enough benefit to consider them to be highly effective, thereby increasing mortality rate among humans.

All these statistics only point to a few percentages of the whole world; if we consider the whole world, in general, there is a high chance these drugs kill more than a million every year. Another interesting study reveals that neuroleptic is known to double the risk at which a person dies when used for treatment. This is because neuroleptic is highly toxic and causes malignancies in the person’s body physiological system. Though some “atypical” neuroleptic, as produced by them, also show a high incidence of death rate when consumed.

The production of newer antipsychotic drugs has even increased the risk of potentially life-threatening disorders, which includes Obesity, Various cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes Mellitus. The age group most at risk are the elderly, as their body metabolism can’t handle such toxicity.

Another popular report which I found was that some “Serious Mental Illness Individuals do die on average 25 years earlier than the general population, which I found disheartening. State studies documents recent increases in death rate over those previously reported”. Premature death among those considered seriously ill began at the same time range at the advent of Psychiatric drugs, which suggests that psychiatric drugs are the major reason implicated in this phenomenon.

How do these drugs cause great harm to the human using them?. They usually target the brain, but some neuroleptics target nerves all over the body and hence are capable of disabling many other systems of the human body, which is very much life-threatening. There are instances were these drugs caused choking in the patients, as a result of compromised neurological competence. A way in which these drugs kill patients is that it slows or deactivates the nerve impulses to the cardiac muscle causing it to lose coordination in rhythm (arrhythmia) or causes sudden stop in the beating action of the heart, causing sudden death (a death that happens without any given sign and it’s not expected due to medicinal causes).

There are pieces of evidence that some Antidepressants can cause suicide, homicide, and other violence, this drugs meant to treat people are doing worse, by making the conditions worse than first presented. They do so either by reducing the quantity of sleep needed by the individual or inhibiting specific areas of the brain, which is required for proper thinking.

With these few points, I have been able to show that Psychiatry’s medications do cause more harm than good, thereby leading to loss of lives instead of saving them.

2. Electroshock Therapy Deaths

Some psychiatrist suggests electroconvulsive ‘therapy’ as a form of treatment for mental health. There has been one death in 10000 individuals who were treated by Electroshock Therapy. According to research, there is no evidence depression, for which ECT is most often used, is ever related to a biological abnormality (In the brain or anywhere in the body).

There is no credible theory that provides an adequate explanation of the reason why inducing seizures by running shock through electricity. Through a person’s head would cure or provide treatment. This evidence shows that electric shock therapy does more harm than good. Electric shock therapy has been indicated in several brain damage, according to pieces of evidence.

3. Death By Physical Restraints

Some psychiatric clinics are usually rough while handling patients. Going extremes to restrain patients, which could lead to the death of a patient that has mental health issues. Cases involving forceful restraining of patients, usually go unreported due to various coverups by the psychiatric institution.

An example I can recall vividly was seeing a videotaped interview with the mother of the 16-year-old boy, or perhaps whom I saw was the mother of another teenage young man who died in a similar way: According to her story, she said a towel was wrapped around his nose and mouth while he was in 4-point restraints, which was supposed to prevent him from biting people (as if he could while restrained in that way even without the towel) who were around in the hospital. A child that could have been better handled died without achieving his purpose in life.

A most common misconception about the staff of the psychiatric clinics is that they are not responsible because they get rarely punished for offenses that could send an individual to jail for a long time. This is due to the perception of the victims that they are usually less than fully human. They believe they have a defective mind since a healthy human mind defines his/her character.

4. Torture as “Therapy”

Psychiatry was coined from the word Psychiatrie meaning non-injurious torture, which was used to describe various methods of frightening mental patients that he considered effective and legitimate treatments.

The main techniques employed by staff of the Psychiatric clinic involves the use of force to persuade their patients to take medications with the patients doing everything in their power to avoid being medicated. The reason stated by staff was that the illness prevented those affected from realizing they are sick and need medication. But they hide the fact that those drugs have tortuous effects on the patients.

Generally, these drugs have some toxic side effects that are usually serious for some individuals than others. Drugs of antipsychotic medications are usually the most toxic. These drugs most likely generate physical, emotional, and cognitive distress. The side effects of these drugs are classified under torture. Since they cause discomfort for the patients.

Some drugs are indicated in cases of permanent neurological diseases such as tardive dyskinesia, akathisia, dystonia, and dementia.

We also have physical restraints (wrists, ankles, and sometimes chest or head), which are frequently used by the staff of the Psychiatric hospital. This is an obvious example of torture. For example, let’s imagine you being tied down against your will, unable to perform normal physical actions. You are restricted to the point; you can’t even scratch your own nose. This is even more torture for patients who have some respiratory disorders like asthma.

When will add up all this to the tortuous and life-threatening effects of the toxic drugs. Which is also given to the patient that is physically restrained, then we see why psychiatry can be indeed evil.

The use of Involuntary electroconvulsive therapy is no longer classified as physical torture due to the use of anesthesia. Though it’s still classified as torture under the “Psychological torture.” And shock therapy causes significant brain damage.

A central objective of this essay is psychiatry’s harmful, cruel, evil, and sometimes fatal “treatments” exist not only in psychiatry’s recent past but now in the early 21st century (still no changes). Unfortunately, the torture continues without any lawmakers help to intervene in this deteriorating situation.

5. Diagnosis Not Scientific Based

Researchers of the famous University of Liverpool took on a study. This study involved a detailed analysis of the widely used Diagnostic and Statistical Manual that is popularly based on most mental health disorders.

This manual was created to provide a generally accepted language for all psychiatrists. This manual was like a common diagnostic language among mental health professionals. It was compiled to provide a definitive list of mental health associated problems. The manual contains symptoms to watch out for as a psychiatrist.

The main findings of the study were:

– Decision-Making rules in psychiatric diagnosis vary a lot.

– Symptoms and Diagnoses overlap one another a lot.

– Diagnoses usually mask the role of trauma and adverse events in a patient’s life.

– Diagnoses give little details about an individual patient and the treatment action that will be taken.

– Diagnostic Labelling was represented by a Disingenuous Categorical system’ by the authors of the book.

Solutions that should be in place

Yes, we know psychiatry is evil. But how do we clean up the big mess caused by psychiatry? Well, the following solutions should be put in place to protect the patients who visit the psychiatric hospital.

  1. Stricter Rules should be placed by lawmakers.

These laws should be about protecting the patient’s best health interest. Any psychiatric staff that is found guilty of jeopardizing the health of a patient should be punished appropriately.

  1. The mode of treatment should be altered.

A new method of treatment should be devised to treat patients. Drugs that are not toxic to the well being of the patient should be produced. The abolishment of Shock Therapy should be put in place as this causes brain damage in a patient.

  1. Torture should be stopped by all means.

A patient was administered to the hospital to get better not to get worse. A patient life is at stake when he/she is being tortured. Law enforcement agencies should be stricter on the psychiatric hospital who tortures patients. Torture usually leads to death, and they should be appropriately punished if found guilty.

  1. New methods of diagnosis should be established by the psychiatric council.

This method should be scientific-based at best and properly backed with facts. This method should be recommended to every psychiatrist after establishment.
